AIAA - American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics
The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) actively participates in the development of public policy, the advancement of the aerospace market, the development and maintenance of national and international standards, and development of education programs and initiatives. AIAA formed in 1963 when the American Rocket Society and Institute of Aerospace Science merged. AIAA has more than 31,000 members.
AIAA participates in the development of international standards through ISO. American national standards activities are performed by five Committees on Standards. The general areas each committee focuses on are Aerospace Sciences; Information and Logistics; Propulsion; Space Systems; and Structures, Design, and Test. AIAA regularly provides expert witnesses to testify before Congressional committees and advises the Executive Office on aerospace matters.
Standards developed by AIAA represent a consensus among government, industry, and academia. Scientists, engineers, industry professionals, educators, and students find AIAA standards useful in the areas of design, development, testing, construction, and operation of air and space vehicles.
